This morning we shared our story of the week, The Little Red Hen. When I asked, "Who will help me to bake some bread?" the children all chorused, "Me, me, me!" Unlike the characters in the story, our Little Wrens couldn't wait to join in.
First, we gathered our equipment and carefully followed the instructions: add the mix to a bowl, pour in the water, stir it together, and then knead and stretch the dough. I was so impressed with the children's wonderful turn-taking skills – and we had so much fun kneading and stretching!
After waiting patiently for the dough to prove, Mrs Warner kindly baked our bread in her oven – thank you, Mrs Warner! Finally came the best part... we got to taste our freshly baked bread. Yummy!
We have also enjoyed lots of other activities to support our gross and fine motor development this morning – creating marks in flour, using a knife to chop apples, hammering golf tees into a pumpkin, printing with sweetcorn, and threading beads to make necklaces.
What busy Little Wrens we have been!
