Remote Learning

Remote Education

At our school, we believe that children learn best when they are in school, learning alongside their teachers and classmates. Regular attendance is therefore always our priority.

There may, however, be exceptional circumstances where a child is unable to attend school but is well enough to continue learning. In these situations, we may provide remote education to help the child keep up with their learning and remain connected to school. This reflects current Department for Education guidance, which states that remote education should only be considered as a last resort when attendance at school is not possible.

Remote education may also be provided if the school, or part of the school, is temporarily unable to open to pupils.

Where remote education is appropriate, we will aim to:

• provide learning that is closely linked to the curriculum being taught in school;

• ensure work is appropriate to the child's age, needs and circumstances;

• provide clear information so that pupils and families understand what is expected;

• support pupils to maintain contact with their learning and school community; and

• consider any additional support or reasonable adjustments needed by pupils with SEND or other individual needs.

Remote education will not routinely be provided for ordinary short-term absence, for example where a child is too unwell to attend school. If a child is unwell, their priority should be to rest and recover.

Any decision to provide remote education will be made on an individual basis, taking account of the child's circumstances and in discussion with parents/carers where appropriate. Providing remote education does not change how absence is recorded. Pupils receiving remote education while absent from school must still be recorded as absent using the appropriate attendance code.

Parents or carers who feel that their child's circumstances may require remote education should contact the school office in the first instance.
