Wrenbury School holds a very special place in my heart, and I feel privileged to be its current headteacher. Since 1932, three generations of my family have attended Wrenbury school; this school and its community really matters to me. I believe that having 'a sense of place and a sense of belonging' is essential for anyone to truly thrive and because of this I feel that our history and our community are extremely important. I want to give our children this sense of place, this sense of belonging. I want them to know that we are all part of a wider family, a wider community and that this is special. I aim for the children to learn that they are part of a bigger picture and that they have the power to have a positive influence on this.
Growing up on a local farm has instilled in me a real love for nature and our environment. This has led me all over the world, taking part in conservation projects in the Amazon Jungle, climbing the Himalayas in Nepal and exploring wild areas of Asia. However, nothing has been more important to me than home. I want our children to learn about our environment and how to take care of it, not only for themselves but for those who follow. Wrenbury School is set in beautiful grounds, in a beautiful part of the world. I want to help the children to make the most of this, embracing our environment and making positive contributions to it.
I have taught in primary schools for almost 20 years. I feel very fortunate to have been able to work with children, to see them learn, grow and thrive. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing a child inspired; watching those eyes light up with awe and wonder or pride in what they have achieved. Childhood is precious and fleeting and, with my wonderful team, I want Wrenbury to light that spark for learning, to help children learn, to aspire to reach their goals, to help them to have confidence to persevere and overcome challenges and to feel that sense of joy and pride that this can achieve.
At Wrenbury, in partnership with parents and our community, I want the Wrenbury team to grow children who have a love of learning and feel successful at this. I want children who know that they can make a difference and are empowered to do things for good, for the bigger picture. I want to see children who know that 'We all Matter'. I want to grow children who are confident in themselves and who are ready and prepared for tomorrow.
