Little Wrens News
Miss Gregory: October 2023
Our learning this week has been led by the story, The Little Red Hen. We explored new vocabulary in the story, such as, harvest, corn, grind and crop, helped to bake bread, made marks in flour, used a variety of creative materials to create the character, The Little Red Hen, re enacted the story and sequenced the events of the story. In our mathematics sessions, we built on our learning from last week and have been introduced to number 2. We looked at different ways we could represent two, then looked at our bodies and noticed that we have two of lots of things. Bonnie noticed, " I have two eyes" Thea noticed, "I have two arms". We then used our hands to create a two picture. During the afternoons, we have talked about Harvest. We learned that harvest means collecting food that has grown and we have started to learn the song "I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow" ready to share in assembly next week.. In our phonics sessions, we have continued to listen for sounds and clap out syllables. To support our physical development, we have enjoyed Wrenbury walks, continued to move in different ways along the obstacle course and practiced our jumping and landing skills. We have built upon our independence skills at snack time and have been using a knife to cut our own toast. During our free play, we have enjoyed rolling conkers down guttering, baked lots of delicious autumn pies in the mud kitchen, played the floor is lava, used blocks to build farms, written lots of lists and created autumn tree pictures. What busy bees we have been!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Gregory

The water we were drinking may have been sucked up by the trunk of a woolly mammoth or even supped Tutankhamun! The children loved the thought of this and we then learnt about the water cycle — the best recycling system! This...

In our science, we have been exploring light, we have discovered a range of light sources and learnt about how our eyes can see light. We then moved on to learning about how light is reflected and we came across a problem. During a battle between the Romans and the Celts, what would they do if they wanted to see over a wall/barrier, to see if the enemy were advancing towards them. We discovered...
