Today we took our maths learning outside to apply our understanding of measurement in a real-life context. With spring beginning to arrive and the weather brightening, it was the perfect opportunity to get outside and make the most of our playground space. We estimated and then measured different parts of the playground, including distances, lengths and perimeters. We carefully chose appropriate units (metres or centimetres) and worked collaboratively to ensure our measurements were accurate. After measuring, we compared our estimates with our actual results and discussed any differences, thinking about how we could improve our accuracy next time. This lesson helped us understand how measurement is used in everyday life and why precision is important.
