We had a great Art day we had this weeklearning all about Wassily Kandinsky!

The children were fascinated by this special and unique artist who had a rare condition called synaesthesia. This is where Kandinsky had special talents where he could see colour when he listened to music and he could hear music when he created his art work.

We practised portraying our emotions through Art by creating our own versions of “Concentric Circles” by Kandinsky.
We were then inspired by his abstract artwork that used shapes, lines and geometry. This helped us to create mood and feeling in our own creations, as well as abstract shapes to give a sense of meaning, without using reality or trying to recreate real images.

Finally, we had the grand finale activity of the day where we had a go at creating expressive art through paint, using music as our only guide and inspiration.

So I played some music for the children to use as a stimulus to create Art. They listened to each of the four parts of “Four Seasons” by Vivaldi. This classical music really got the artistic juices flowing! We all put our abstract techniques and skills to good practise to create a four-part piece of artwork, showcasing how the different musical sections made us feel, thus, made us paint with different lines, colours, density and shape.

This was so fun and thoroughly enjoyed by all. All of our art work will be going on display and in our learning journeys. Well done to all our miniature Kandinsky children!
