We have had a truly ROARsome week in Little Wrens and have been completely captivated by our dinosaur theme.
This week, we became palaeontologists, excavating for fossils. It hasn’t been a quick process and the children have shown fantastic resilience and perseverance as they carefully brushed and chipped away at their delicate eggs. I can now confirm that we have discovered some dinosaurs! The children have loved finding out which dinosaurs they might be and exploring their different features to help us identify them.
We have been developing our vocabulary, exploring words such as stomp, swish, chomp, glide, charge, swoop, fierce and gigantic. The children used their bodies to represent these words and movements, then began exploring musical instruments to recreate the sounds of different dinosaurs — banging loudly has been our favourite! No wonder I have a headache 😉
In mathematics, we met one more than three… you guessed it, four! We enjoyed counting to four and exploring different representations of four. The children are becoming super confident at telling me whether they can see four or not four — well done!
In phonics, we listened carefully for the ‘m’ sound in words and took part in activities to support our segmenting and blending skills. Super listening from everyone!
During our myHappymind session, we explored character strengths, with this week’s focus being kindness. We talked about what makes a kind friend and made friendship bracelets for each other.
We also enjoyed ball skills with Mrs Phoenix and Mrs Smith, and took part in litter picking on Welly Wednesday, helping to care for our environment.
And did you know our older children have started recognising their names each morning and have been working hard to trace their names — wow, what fantastic progress!
Another busy, fun-filled week of learning in Little Wrens
