Base 5 have had a fantastic day as people from the 1920s who lived in New York. We have had gangsters, flapper girls, maids, newspaper sellers, factory workers, circus ringmasters and acrobats. The costumes were fantastic!
We started our day with a debate: Is it right to steal something back if it belonged to you in the first place? The children decided their side and worked out their points to argue. We then set up a debate and the children learned how to argue their points and challenge others respectfully.
After break, we had found out that there had been a murder! There were a sequence of clues to solve to cross off suspects on the list. Some of the clues were very challenging to solve.
We spent the afternoon learning about crime and punishment activists: Elizabeth Fry, Emmeline Pankhurst and William Wilberforce. The work they did to improve lives for others was inspirational.
We finished our day with our assembly for the whole school which gave the other children plenty of information about crime and punishment. The children spoke very clearly; we were very proud of them!
