What a wonderful week of learning we have had in Little Wrens!
This week’s focus has been on how we can help to save our oceans. We read the story Somebody Swallowed Stanley, where Stanley, a plastic bag, is mistaken for food by a variety of sea creatures. This sparked lots of thoughtful discussions about how we can protect marine life. The children talked about the importance of keeping our beaches clean, putting litter in the bin, and even taking our rubbish home if there are no bins available. In literacy, we spent time drawing the character Stanley, and towards the end of the week we created our own story maps to help us retell the story. It has been lovely to see how much our drawing skills are improving week by week. In maths, we had lots of fun in the water tray, filling and emptying containers while exploring language such as full, empty, and nearly full. In phonics, our N1 children enjoyed activities based around the rhyme A Sailor Went to Sea, while our N2 children continued to develop their listening skills through a range of engaging activities. During provision, we used recycled materials to create fish and jellyfish, printed sea turtles using a potato mashed and the children loved using nets in the water tray to “clean” the ocean by removing rubbish.
