Base 3 has had a fantastic activity-filled day in Chester today!
The children have spent the morning being Roman soldiers marching around the city, arriving finally at the famous amphitheatre. We then re-enacted some gladiatorial action, learning how to protect ourselves using our scutum (shields) and even sacrificing a defeated (but not killed) warrior after an audience vote of whether to save him or sacrifice him.
The rest of the day was spent in workshops, learning how the archaeologists have pieced together the past of Roman Chester, as well as exploring the museum's fascinating galleries. The children have made some incredible detailed drawings of their most interesting findings, including real life skeleton discoveries and Latin engraved tombstones.
I am very proud of all the children, their behaviour and listening skills were superb all throughout the day and I'm sure they'll be excited to tell you all the detail of this trip when they get home.
