Yr 3 and 4 Residential

Year 3 and 4 have had a fantastic couple of days away exploring the amazing countryside that we are so very lucky to live in. We have been orienteering, pond dipping, den making, walking, and generally enjoying the outdoors. The children loved exploring the grounds of the churchyard; they really enjoyed the peace and tranquillity and learning about the lives of the people who had been there before us. It was lovely to see the children’s curiosity and respect in this special place.

In the grounds of the residential centre, the children also enjoyed an orienteering session where they showed off their great map-reading skills and teamwork. Pond dipping was another favourite, with the children catching a range of incredible creatures, including a smooth newt and the rarer great crested newt! The children were thrilled with all their discoveries.

To draw our evening to a close, we all sat around a campfire talking about our day while toasting marshmallows. After this, we headed inside to get ready for bed; however, those who were brave enough ventured back outside with their head torches (thank you to Barney's mum for these) to explore the grounds in the dark. We sat by the embers of the campfire and listened to tawny owls—what a treat. Finally, when everyone was washed and ready for bed, we all curled up and listened to a story: Fantastic Mr Fox—always a great read!

On our last day, after a hearty breakfast, we enjoyed a fabulous walk up the hills near our centre. The children really embraced this, loving the great outdoors and looking for birds, plants, and animals. Once at the top, we enjoyed den building—working together to make our shelters and searching for wildlife in the beautiful surroundings. What a great time we had!
