Welcome back Base 5
: September 2022
Welcome back Base 5, what a great start you have made as our Year 6 children. You have come back happy, enthusiastic and a lot taller!
The highlight of our week has definitely been spending time with our buddies. On Monday we went outside, and you read your first story with them, which was lovely to see. You then were able to enjoy playing together; I saw games of hide and seek, tag and duck-duck-goose! In the week, you wrote thoughtful letters to your buddies which you shared with them today- they were so happy to receive them.
This week we have also started our art project, beginning with an investigation into colour. We have looked at tones, patterning and use of different materials in relation to colour and have used this investigative work to make our own sketchbooks. You have really thought carefully about your art and I have seen great progress already. Well done.
In maths we have been focusing on place value, looking at numbers to 10,000,000. You have all worked hard on this and showed great value in your work, well done.
You have also enjoyed French, RE music and PE. In PE you work so well together, cheering each other on and supporting each other- what a wonderful class you are!
It has been lovely getting to know you all more this week and I really do look forward to our year together.

The water we were drinking may have been sucked up by the trunk of a woolly mammoth or even supped Tutankhamun! The children loved the thought of this and we then learnt about the water cycle — the best recycling system! This...

In our science, we have been exploring light, we have discovered a range of light sources and learnt about how our eyes can see light. We then moved on to learning about how light is reflected and we came across a problem. During a battle between the Romans and the Celts, what would they do if they wanted to see over a wall/barrier, to see if the enemy were advancing towards them. We discovered...
