This morning we held an assembly to recognise and celebrate VE day. The children joined our street party and ate cake to celebrate. We learnt about the celebrations that were held and how people felt a sense of joy, excitement and relief on this day 80 years ago. We also talked about why some people may have not wanted to celebrate. We talked about the loss of so many lives. After this, we felt grateful to those that gave their lives so that we could live in peace. We spoke of the many ways that we feel happy and lucky every day and that today, and days going forward, we would make sure that we were grateful for all the wonderful things in our lives and be thankful to those who gave their lives to make this possible.
At end the end of the assembly our KS2 children shared a maypole dance, everyone clapped and cheered in celebration!
