Well, what have we been doing this week? Let us begin with our awesome arithmetic, over the last few weeks we have focused on key arithmetic skills- the children have been so focused on their learning which has meant our confidence our skill in this area have grown immensely! Well done Base 4.
In English we have been focusing on reading skills- looking at what we think we know in the writing and using evidence to support our ideas. The children have been working on their speaking skills too- reading out their answers, considering where and when emphasis should be placed on words to impact on the listener. Again, the children's confidence has already grown in this area with them now being far more sure of themselves when speaking to the class. We have also been busy writing our newspaper reports which are linked to the story- it has been quite tricky to stay formal and not slip into story writing but, after focus and determination, we did it!
In history we have continued learning about 'The Reformation', this week focusing on the dissolution of the monasteries. Focusing on Fountains Abbey, we have inspected a range of resources; maps, paintings, models etc to help us make some historical opinions about this place. The children really enjoy making their own judgements and linking their learning — piecing it all together. We will continue with this next week.
We finished our week by writing a post card to the residents at Wrenbury Nursing Home, every child in the class wrote and decorated one sharing lovely news and messages- a great way to end the week.
