What a super week we have had.
The stand out moment for this week was definitely our geography. Last week we investigated different scenarios, looking at where to place a dam as part of a regeneration project for a town. This week we held the public consultation for it. There were many groups in attendance; the local residents, farmers, the water and electricity companies as well as the wildlife trust and the local heritage society to name but a few! The children met in their committee groups to discuss their response to the proposed dam and then came together at the public consultation to discuss their thoughts. The children we so engaged, they spoke well and articulated their points with passion. They now await the final decision which in now in the hands of the local council.
As well as this we have completed our textile art work, after investigating a range of different mark making, and learning how to paint on textiles, we created final pieces of textile art work. I have to say, I think they look fantastic.
In maths the children have loved learning algebra- this is something that they have picked up quickly and then enjoyed applying to problem solving.
In English we have continued our nonfiction writing about dams, focusing on dam disasters.
This is just a snippet of what we have done this week – a good week had by Base 5.
