What a lovely week we have had in Base 5, it has been lovely to be back together after a break for half term.
In English this week we have continued with our writing, inspired by extracts of 'The Other Side of Truth.' The children have been truly gripped by the story and have been enjoying looking deeper into what is hidden behind the words written. The text has inspired to plan our own story, following a similar storyline.
In maths we have been learning about angles. We recapped triangles and the range of rules associated with angles and then we looked at problem solving; how can we find the missing angles? What facts do we need to know? What calculations do we need to carry out? How can we reason with our answers- why is this answer likely to be correct? This is something that we really enjoyed getting into .
We have also been learning about totem poles, finding out what they were used for and what meaning each totem had. From this we then designed totem poles which meant something to us, as individuals. When selecting their totems, the children had to be aware of their best characteristics/ qualities and I was impressed with how well they were able to do this, the children were able to say that they were; kind, thoughtful, caring, a leader, nurturing etc . This work combined our history, art and geography knowledge and built on our work in Myhappymind.
As well as this we enjoyed our swimming lesson; the swimming teachers are very pleased with the progress the children are making with many children completing their 25 metre lengths, well done. In our PE lesson this week we developed our upper and lower body strength and worked on our football skills.
In music we began our new topic which is very exciting; The Fresh Prince of Bell- Air! The children we really able to show their rhythm in this session and we look forward to learning more in this unit.
Our World Book Day was full of reading which was just wonderful. We read to each other, listened to a story read by a different teacher and had time to delve into our own books. We do love reading and enjoyed having a whole day to celebrate this.
The Year 6 children also enjoyed time with their buddies, reading stories to them and supporting them in their reading too.
Base 5, thank you for a lovely week.
