What an incredible day we have had so far as we have stepped back in time to explore the fascinating Maya civilisation. We began the day with a whole-school assembly, where the children confidently presented their learning and shared their knowledge of Maya life, food and traditions with pride. Throughout the day, the children immersed themselves in hands-on learning, preparing and tasting a range of Maya-inspired foods such as tortillas and bean dishes, while learning about the importance of maize and beans in Maya life. After that, they became artisans, using air-drying clay to create their own Maya cooking pots, carefully building them using coiling techniques and decorating them with traditional patterns. It was a fantastic day that brought together history, art, design technology and oracy, and we are incredibly proud of the children’s enthusiasm, creativity and confidence.
