Despite the rain, Base 3 have had a fantastic day enhancing their learning about the Iron Age.

Our first stop was Old Oswestry Hillfort, where we explored the site of an Iron Age hillfort and we could see the ramparts that had been built. We had a nice walk up to the hillfort and up through one of the original entrances before walking around the top of the hillfort.

We then went onto Parkhall, the Countryside Experience. Here, we learnt how the Celts weaved and we even got to weave our very own bracelets to take home. Although this was quite challenging, the children embraced the challenge and produced some excellent, weaved bracelets.

Finally, we got to go into the Iron Age round house that has been recreated using the same methods the celts would have used in the Iron Age. We found out how it was built and the types of jobs the Celts would have had. We also got to have a go at grinding some corn using stones.

The children were fantastic all day and should be very proud of themselves. Well done Base 3! Thank you to Mrs Clarke, who as always, supported us all day and to Miss McKinnon for giving up her time to help us for the day!
