Base 3 news
Miss Phillips: September 2019
What a super week and a half we have had in Base 3 so far! It has been lovely seeing all of you in Base 3 again after the summer holidays. You have all come back well-rested and ready to learn.
We have started to discover our new Learning Journey for this term through art. We have learnt about the Japanese artist, Hokusai and had a go at recreating some of the artwork he produced many years ago. We have made a large version of his painting, The Great Wave. We have also observed pictures of a Cherry Blossom tree which is a Japanese tree. We then used watercolours and a cotton bud brush to paint our own Cherry Blossom Trees. These all look fabulous in our classroom!
We have turned our maths brains back on and have started working on understanding place value of numbers with 2 and 3 digits. We had a great time in the hall creating numbers using digits. Next week we will continue to work on place value.
In Literacy, we have started to explore our text, Kensuke's Kingdom. We made some excellent predictions about what the story might be about and very much enjoyed reading and discussing chapter 1 of the book. Next week we will explore the book further and be doing some non-fiction writing.
Keep reading as often as you can, many children are already climbing the reading ladder. Keep practising your times tables and spellings so that we keep improving. Don't forget your trumpet and trombone practise; our next lesson is on Thursday morning so it must be in school.

Another busy week has flown by in Base 3. This week, we were amazed by water! We began learning about the water cycle by drinking water that was billions of years old! The water we were drinking may have been sucked up by the trunk of a woolly mammoth or even supped Tutankhamun! The children loved the thought of this and we then learnt about the water cycle — the best recycling system! This...
