Another busy week has flown by in Base 3. This week, we were amazed by water! We began learning about the water cycle by drinking water that was billions of years old! The water we were drinking may have been sucked up by the trunk of a woolly mammoth or even supped Tutankhamun! The children loved the thought of this and we then learnt about the water cycle – the best recycling system! This learning has been lead alongside our English text 'Rhythm of the Rain'.
This week we also delved into science, looking at light and dark. The children had some very interesting ideas on these concepts and we learnt about the idea of 'reflection'. We learnt that the moon reflected light from the sun and, despite what we first thought, the moon was not a source of light. The children investigated a range of objects and decided if they were sources of light, reflected light or did none of these things.
In English, we have continued to write our story about Isaac and his little jar of water. We were even able to begin an independent write, creating our own story. It has been lovely to see how focused the children have been with this- well done everyone.
In maths we have been learning about the column method for addition – this is a method that we would use when we couldn't add in our heads. We enjoyed using our place value counters to help with this.
In art we have transferred our mark making skills into sewing (with a little help from Mrs Rowlands) , we have been sewing representations of the Egyptian seasons on our painted textiles. These are looking really good!
We have also spent time putting out work into our learning journey books,.
We have also gained a rather pretty little Christmas tree and a lovely advent calendar with chocolate coins to celebrate the count down to Christmas- it is all very exciting!
