In Base 3, we have had a great first 2 weeks back in the summer term. Everyone has come back well rested and ready to learn (including the teachers)!

In Literacy this week, we wrote a character description of the Native American Character from The Indian in the Cupboard. We started by describing the Native Americans, which we then improved by learning some of the technical vocabulary about their clothes. Following this we were able to write a description of the Native American ensuring we used plenty of detail, description, prepositions and some adverbs. Next week, we will be practising writing direct speech with the correct punctuation which will then be used within a story.

In Maths, we have been working on number and place value. We have been ensuring we know what the value of each digit within a number is, ordering and comparing numbers, adding and subtracting 10 or 100 and solving a range of different problems. Year 4 also looked at Roman numerals. Next week, we will be working on number lines and working out values in between the number lines and putting this into practise in more problems. Year 4 will also work with negative numbers.

On Tuesday, we ventured outside in search for different rocks/stones that we could find around the school grounds. We found plenty of different ones. We then grouped these rocks based on different characteristics, for example colour, shape, surface. We then looked at some different kinds of rocks including basalt and limestone, focusing on what they look and feel like. Next week, we will continue to work with rocks and will be focusing on whether a rock is hard or soft and permeable or impermeable.

We started our DT project this week, we are making a tepee!! We began by researching tepees and using the research to create our own design. We then were able to make the octagonal base out of cardboard, making sure we measured accurately. Following this, we drew out the shape of the skin/cover using fabric. Next week we will be putting designs onto the skin/cover and making it into a tepee!

Please remember to keep learning your spellings and times tables as much as possible, they are very important. Please also keep reading daily and remember your PE kits each week!

Continuing to explore our Space theme, the children drew around themselves creating an astronaut and set about decorating it. We have turned our handprints into aliens and wrote our names in glitter. The children finished off their mobile of the planets (we may have discovered a few more than in real life!) and hung this in the classroom. It looks super! Last week we made astronaut packed...

As you know, Sarah (Goodwin) has been quietly receiving donations of household 'clearing out' items and reselling them in the hope of raising £1000 to cover the lost fundraising from the school's annual summer fair. Sarah has topped her personal target and has now raised £1,500. WOW! Sarah — it's an incredible amount and we all thank you for your personal...
