It was lovely to share Alice's family celebration of the Thai festival of light or 'Loy Krathong' in assembly yesterday.
Whilst Alice's Aunty Chanya was busy making krathongs with her class in Thailand (see photo 1 and 2), Alice was busy doing the same with mum, dad and gran here (photo 3). Krathong means 'floating basket'. In Thailand, people traditionally make a krathong out of the trunk of a banana plant and decorate it with leaves and flowers, three incense sticks and a candle before placing it on the river to worship and thank the goddess of water and show respect to Buddha. Alice did the same, floating her krathong on her pond at home (photo 4). Thank you Alice (and her mum, Carrie) for sharing the super photos and helping us learn more about Loy Krathong and the traditions and celebrations that are important within our school family.
