Christmas is coming in Base 1!
Miss Pitchford: December 2018
It is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Base 1! The stage is up and our Christmas performance rehearsals were in full swing last week. We are very excited to be sharing these with you very soon!
We also spent time preparing for the Christmas Fair. Everyone in Base 1 created a lovely candle table decoration using festive greenery such as ivy and holly. We learnt about the job of a florist and said that at this time of year florists are very busy making decorations just like these and also wreaths for our front doors. The children loved doing this, they were so patient and careful to try and cover as much of the base as they could. I think you will agree they are beautiful, and certainly sold very well on Friday evening (with a little help from our enthusiastic salespeople!). We do have a few left if you didn't manage to buy one on Friday, just let me know and we will keep one for you.
On Friday, we had an especially exciting morning and a very special visitor! Father Christmas came to see us and brought some of his reindeer for us to meet. Everyone got to meet Father Christmas, telling him that they had been very well behaved and always go to bed at the right time, and even came away with a little present to keep us going until Christmas Day. What a fabulous way to end the week! For the Little Wrens who were not able to come and see Father Christmas on Friday he did leave me a little something for you, so if a present comes home over the next week or so that is who it is from!
We look forward to seeing you at all of various performances we have going on this week.

The water we were drinking may have been sucked up by the trunk of a woolly mammoth or even supped Tutankhamun! The children loved the thought of this and we then learnt about the water cycle — the best recycling system! This...

In our science, we have been exploring light, we have discovered a range of light sources and learnt about how our eyes can see light. We then moved on to learning about how light is reflected and we came across a problem. During a battle between the Romans and the Celts, what would they do if they wanted to see over a wall/barrier, to see if the enemy were advancing towards them. We discovered...
