This week has just flown by! We have been busy as always and this week, more than anything else, the class has enjoyed the hyena poetry that we have been writing. I have to say that I think their work is simply brilliant and I have felt very proud of them an of what they have achieved. They enjoyed reading their (almost finished( versions out in class, when they are complete I will share some of these with you.
It has been lovely to see how our oracy is really improving. Not only are the children becoming more aware of how to speak with expression, fluency and confidence in front of a wider audience but they have also been developing their skills in discussion with each other. It is great to hear them say; 'What are your thoughts about this?', 'This is similar to..', 'This is quite different from..', 'I understand your point, but I think a little differently.' Well done Base 5.
In maths we have been deepening our knowledge of fractions and the many ways we can manipulate, change and calculate with them. I have to say that I love fractions and the children have done a super job of really understanding what they mean.
We also had our first 'My Happy Mind' session. We learnt about the amygdala, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. This helped us gain an understanding of how we work, how these parts of the brain need to work together and what happens if one takes over! These sessions will help us understand how we feel, notice if things aren't going so well and support us to take steps to make things better when this happens.
In French we re-visited our phonics, looking at letters and sounds and then pronouncing these in words. We also recapped our 'classroom language'. It was great fun recapping all the letter sounds.
We have also been investigating in our geography lessons. We began by considering what we already knew and how this knowledge would help us move forward. We looked at a range of maps, some which simply showed the world and some that included data and further information. We realised this data was showing us global journeys and from this we realised that these journeys must linked to shipping. When we looked deeper, we realised that these were key trade links. We then considered not only the human and physical geography around the ports that we had discovered but also the impact this may have on the economy of that country. We had many questions which we plan to investigate further in our next lesson.
As well as all this we enjoyed our PE, RE and music and enjoyed the Friday assembly led by our wonderful Y6 children. A good week had by all.
