Another busy week for us in Base 5. In English we read extracts of Kite Rider and The Firework Maker's Daughter and have been comparing texts, looking at how authors develop character through their writing. It was very interesting to see the clever ways that authors use language and description to influence the reader.
In our maths this week we have been learning about decimals and fractions. We have been learning the value of decimals and making links between this and fractions. As well as this we have been working on our arithmetic, and I have to say that the children are incredible when it comes to this! They have worked on their arithmetic, being very focused on their individual next steps and , due to their focus and hard work, they are simply flying! Well done all.
In geography this week we created topographical maps of Canada, after learning about the mountains, forests and lakes the children were able to recreate these features by making 3D maps. The children really enjoyed using new art materials which allowed them to do this and created some super maps. In computing, we took our artwork to the next step after looking at the work of Escher. Inspired by his work, we continued using Inkscape to help us tesselate our shapes to create intricate patterns and designs. In RE we looked back at our 'Code for Living', discussing what qualities we thought were needed to make the world a happy place. We then looked at what Christians believe though parables, bible verses and The Fruits of the Spirt- as always the children we thoughtful, respectful and reflective. We also enjoyed our swimming session; the instructors were very impressed with the progress of the children which was lovely to hear. In PE the children enjoyed hockey and gymnastics lessons; I have to say that their gymnastics is very impressive! As well as this we have enjoyed our myhappymind lesson, continued learning about verbs in French, sung beautifully in music and enjoyed assemblies and playtimes.
