This week has flown by in Base 2! I have been so impressed by how hard the children have continued to work as we approach the end of a very busy term. We all enjoyed a festive day on Wednesday when we had our delicious Christmas lunch. We spent time beforehand making party hats (with plenty of glitter!) to ensure we were all dressed for the occasion and then have a lovely time sharing lunch as a whole class.

In literacy we have been working on non fiction writing. We started the week rehearsing some writing about red foxes, this was a chance to develop our vocabulary and practise using a range of sentence types. Towards the end of the week we learnt some facts about hedgehogs and then began innovating our own writing using the structure and language we had been practising in the red fox piece. Both myself and Mrs Cador were really impressed by the stamina the children showed to write at length this week and the vocabulary and variety of sentence types they were using in their writing.

In maths this week we have been applying our multiplication and division skill by focusing on problem solving. We have been looking at different strategies for attacking problems that don't just show themselves as a sum and learning that it is okay to have a few goes before we get it right!

The children produced some lovely artwork this week to go on the front cover of their learning journey books. We used birch trees as inspiration and painted them in black, using cardboard to create the bark, and then produced a contrasting painted background for them to sit on. We hope you will like it!

I hope you have all had a restful weekend and are ready for lots of Christmas learning and fun this week (I can't wait!).

Not only was it very exciting to dress in our sports wear today, we also got to meet a real athlete, Sean Conwy — wow! We learned that he is three — time world record holding endurance athlete and that he is the only person to have ever completed a triathlon the length of Britain — impressive. We then had lots of fun competing in our own sponsored triathlon. Throughout the day, we took part in...
