Wellbeing

Buddies

Our Year 5 children buddy with the new starters during their induction and they look after them when they become our new Year 6 and the children start in Reception. They meet regularly to play and read and support the well-being of the children in school alongside Mrs Evans, Miss Phillips and Mrs Culbert.

New children are buddied with a child in their class to help them settle in at Wrenbury.

Nurture
In school we are very conscious of the 'invisible' children; children who do not stand out or get the additional attention that other children may get because of their SEND, being Pupil Premium or having challenging home situations. Often 'invisible' children are quieter, well-mannered, conscientious, attentive and good attenders and seem happy in school. It is always possible that these children can go 'under the radar' in a school but not at Wrenbury.

Wellbeing is important at Wrenbury. All children from YR-6 participate in the NHS 'myhappymind' programme.

Y3-6 have a weekly Well-being Lunch Club. Each small group (8-10 children) has a different teacher or teaching assistant across the year who is responsible for each child's well-being. They are the children's mentors. One lunchtime, each week, they meet with their nurture group to eat together. This gives both the adult and the children the opportunity to get to know each other. During these weekly lunchtime sessions the group will focus on key ideas or questions to help build or raise self-esteem, confidence, resilience, pride and opportunity. For the children they will have their very own 'champion' in school, who will look out for them across the week, motivate and encourage them with their work or friendships and be a listening ear. For the adult, they will get to know the children well and be able to support each child's social and emotional well-being as well as encouraging the children with their work, a 'you can do it attitude', find opportunities for the children to be more actively involved in school and their community and celebrate personal achievements along the way.

Assemblies
We have three whole school assemblies and two class based assemblies:
Monday: Y6 lead our ACIEVE assembly — Headteacher awards, Star Learner awards, ACHIEVE awards, best class attendance award and celebrations including birthdays.
Tuesday: Mrs Cador — PHSE/ school ethos, vision and values
Wednesday and Thursday — short class assembly/focus talk — based on Wellbeing Themes
Friday: Mrs Cador — PHSE/ school ethos, vision and values; special days; British Values

We lead key services across the school year: for Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas Carols / Nativity, Easter and Leavers' Services. Most of these take place in school or at St Margaret's Church. Preparation for these may be in our assembly slots or in additional whole school time together.
