Teaching and Learning and Assessment Committee Terms of Reference 2018
This committee oversees the work of the school in relation to:

  • Curriculum
  • SEND
  • Pupil Premium
  • Attainment
  • Achievement
  • Targeting and monitoring
  • All relevant policies

    Membership: The committee shall consist of not less than four governors. Membership shall include the Head-teacher or member of the Senior Leadership team (SLT) with responsibility for curriculum.
    The committee may make recommendations to the governing body for co-option of non-governors members and advise whether or not such members should be given a vote.
    Quorum: Three governors which include the head or SLT member and a governor who is not an employee of the school.
    Meetings: Once per term, or more frequently if deemed necessary by the majority of members.
    Chair: Non-employee to be elected by the full governing body.
    Accountability: The committee will report back to the governing body by submitting minutes which record decisions made, actions to be taken and/or recommendations for consideration.

    Curriculum

  • to ensure that the National Curriculum is delivered and its assessment procedures are carried out in line with the legal framework
  • to ensure that the whole school curriculum is: broad and balanced; relevant to the needs of all children; provides continuity and progression; adequately resourced
  • to ensure that the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is delivered and its assessment procedures are carried out in line with the legal framework
  • to receive curriculum progress reports from the head and others including an analysis of the annual ASP and IDSR Reports statutory assessment information in order to monitor, review and evaluate the standards of achievement, to seek to make continuing improvement
  • to receive curriculum progress reports from the head and others including an analysis of the annual Raise online Report and information about non-statutory assessment and testing in order to monitor, review and evaluate the standards of achievement, seek to make continuing improvements and inform target setting
  • to ensure the School Website complies with making statutory information accessible; to liaise with, consult with, and provide information to, parents and the wider community on matters relating to the curriculum as required
    SEND
  • to evaluate the provision, progress and attainment of children with SEN and /or disabilities having regard to the SEND Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination Act; to ensure that the school has a SEND coordinator who is provided with sufficient time, training and resources to undertake his/her responsibilities
    Pupil Premium
  • to ensure the school has a strategy for the school's use of Pupil Premium funding (PP);-to ensure that pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium funding are making as good progress as all other children from their starting points
    Attainment and achievement
  • to receive information about non-statutory assessment and testing in order to monitor, review and evaluate the standards of achievement, to seek to make continuing improvements and inform target setting for all children
  • to liaise with, consult with, and provide information to parents and the wider community on matters relating to a pupil's academic and personal achievement
  • to ensure that the school offers equality of opportunity to all children whatever their age, ability or disability, gender, race, religion or belief or background through all its policies, procedures and practices
  • to promote partnership with parents to support their children's learning and to celebrate children's academic achievements
    Targeting and monitoring
  • to contribute, in collaboration with the head and staff, to establishing, monitoring and evaluating sections of the School's Progress to Date document relating to teaching and learning and assessment and the quality of provision and to oversee any key issues relating to curriculum delivery in line with guidance
  • to keep relevant sections of the Self-Evaluation Summary document under review and update as necessary
  • to ensure that statutory targets for pupil achievements are set and published as required
    Policies
  • to establish and monitor the impact of, and review the School's Curriculum Statement and Overviews, SEND Policy and other curriculum related policies in line with the agreed cycle and make recommendations to the governing body for change as necessary
  • to review the policy and provision for Collective Worship and RE in line with the locally agreed syllabus and make recommendations for change when necessary
